OCI Free Tier Account Signup

Why I'm writing this?

    Many of us are unaware of this service. My colleague was hesitant to provide his credit card details because his Amazon cloud services subscription was extended without his knowledge. For Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), the credit card details are used solely for identity verification with a refundable $1 charge. No charges will occur unless the account is upgraded. When I struggled to create an OCI Free Tier Account, I decided to write an article to help others avoid similar difficulties.

Pre Requisites:

• E-Mail Id
• Mobile Number
• Credit card or Debit card
• Billing address of the credit card or Debit card

Account Creation:

    Open OCI sign-in page in any browser or Click Here to navigate to that page. Click Sign Up button. Before proceeding make sure international transaction is enabled in your credit or debit card.

    Then you will be redirected to Account Information page, there we need to choose Country and enter First name, Last name and email address. (First name and Last name should be match with bank records which you will give in the bank records).

    Once you click on the Verify email button we'll receive an email from Oracle Cloud.

    After click verify email button in email, we'll redirected to another page which we need to enter the credential and tenancy details

    Then we'll redirected to Address Information page. Fill the details as per bank records.

After clicking Continue you will be redirected to Payments section. (Critical part of the account creation)

    Once we click Finish, we'll get Thank You! message. Accept the agreement and click Start my free trial. We'll get one more thank you massage.

    The message shows it'll take 15 minutes to completing it. But actual it may take few days also. So please be patience. Once it is completed we will get 2 welcome email from oracle cloud with access details. 

    After getting second email we can start using the OCI Free Tier account. Next we need to setup the Multifactor Authenticator. That is not an issue now. How easy to creating an account, then where I was in struggle, explaining below.

Things to be careful:

• First name and last name should be match with bank records.
• Address should be match with bank records.
• International transaction must be enabled while submitting the card details.
• Bank provided credit card or debit card should contain our name on top of it.

    If you provide any wrong information, it will through error. It wouldn't deduct money from card. Sometimes money will be deducted and you will get an error like below.

    I tried with multiple cards and got the same error. I thought oracle blocked my account, contacted support team and raised incidents. But no use. Now I'm realizing issue with my end only.

    If we provide correct details, it is very easy to create the OCI account. There are lot of features oracle provided there. I don't know about them all. I'm trying to explore the things. This is my 0th blog, so apologize any mistakes I made.
